report from inside the coffee spray
Jan. 16th, 2005 03:33 pmwhoa!!!
i was sitting here trying to start my homework, and i hear this mad fizzing sound from the kitchen.
we have this stovetop espresso maker, and i had turned the flame on a few minutes ago to get some coffee going.
i just looked in to investigate and as i looked in, it made this loud "pow" sound, lifted itself off the burner and flung itself into the air, while exploding coffee and coffee grounds all over every surface of the walls, the counters, the ceiling. it then set itself on fire, and put itself out quickly.
there is a layer of coffee on every. single. thing. in the kitchen.
phew... i'm glad i was standing back!

Dec. 28th, 2004 09:34 ami am still haunted by these media images of 44, 000....and two of them very nearly my cousins who are in thailand for their honeymoon right now. they are amazingly ok, but very cut-up and shaken, as they were snorkelling when the wave approached.
that's it. all of pete and my christmas money is going to relief effort, especially because of the pitiful amount that north american leaders are offering survivors.
bustie power: this is very very awesome: click here for relief ideas a>
getting the house ready today for more visitors, of the grandparent variety...it has been a neverending stream, but all good.
we do have many many bottles of wine to dull our pain.

Dec. 26th, 2004 12:48 pmwaking up, i read that a number of places that pete and i have passed through are suffering terrible losses right now. much more loss is felt in india and sri lanka, which have been ravaged.
prisoners escaping as waves rip through the beach-side jail and people swept away from beaches gripping their children...tragedy on an almost epic scale.
reading about thousands of fishermen going missing sinks my heart. these lives and boats are so valuable in sustaining lives for their communities. we are looking into where to send our money for the most good (ie: where corrupt government doesn't skim it away).
i deeply wish that the many loving friends we met in indonesia, malaysia and thailand are safe...and a higher and more secure rebirth for the thousands of souls who have been affected.

Aug. 27th, 2004 03:13 pmHi [lloli],
Thanks for your letter. I've received more letters on this column (both
positive and negative) than on any other. I had no idea it would strike a
nerve since it was just my own personal experience.
I would like to correct something however. Shopping vintage versus new is
not only about the cost. (These days because vintage is so hot, it actually
costs more than new in many cases.) It was more a personal habit and one
that had negative results for me. So I changed it. It's not about class or
gender. It's a personal story about my own perception of being in a rut and
struggling to get out of it.
Thanks for taking the time to write in.
Regards,
Rita

You have a free soul! As all the souls go, yours is
the most free-spirited and adventurous. You
like camping, hiking, or interaction with other
people. Your a social butterfly, but not
because of your style, but because of your
willingness to communicate with everyone. You
probably have close friends who can rely on you
because you always seem to know whats going on
in the world. You love music and are
free-spirited and someone fun to be around. A
born leader and great explorer-dont ever
change-the world needs more people like you.

Witty, amusing and a bit weird, you're welcomed
into most social groups, even though you don't
'fit in' perfectly .
